ProbilityWinding through a beautiful old Ann Arbor neighborhood near the University of Michigan campus, the tree-lined Burns Park Run loop course has been a favorite of beginner and world-class runners alike since 1979.

Organized by volunteers as a fundraiser for Burns Park Elementary School students (the Penguins), the 5K and 10K races draw 800 to 1,000 runners aged 5 to 85 years, with over 200 elementary school kids running the 5K.  A separate Fun Run around the park for little runners starts after the big races finish.

Each year, a celebrity athlete joins the Burns Park Run for running and inspiration. Past guests have included Olympians Sada Jacobson, Cheryl Haworth, Cara Heads, Sheila Taormina, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Frank Shorter, Francie Goodridge, Gary Morgan, and Jackie Hansen - as well as Runner's World writer John Bingham ("The Penguin"), elite Kenyan-American runner Boaz Cheboiywe, and marathon legend Doug Kurtis.

Another BPR in the books! Race Results will be posted at Runmichigan as soon as they are available
Visit www.runmichigan.com
if you can't wait until we get our site updated! If you "LIKE" or Burns Park Run Facebook page, you will receive updates as we add results and links to photos, etc. Please let us know if you see any required corrections or need to pick up an award or T-shirt (email racedirector@burnsparkrun.org).

Thank you to all of our 100+ volunteers, to every runner who donated to a charity, and to Emily Samuelson for being a standout special guest at our run - even offering to help cleanup!!!

Our 2012 Special Guest will be Olympic Ice Dancer Emily Samuelson!

Emily will visit Burns Park School as well as the race - leading our stretches before the race and hopefully handing out medals (and perhaps receiving one...) Welcome, Emily!

This year, run a mile in honor of Sir Roger Bannister!
May 6th is the anniversary date of the running of the first sub 4-minute mile. On May 6, 1954, 25 year-old Roger Bannister ran the mile in 3:59.4 and proved that the 4 minute mile was only perceived to be an impenetrable barrier. After Bannister broke the (mental) barrier, other runners knew it could be done. By the end of 1957, SIXTEEN runners had achieved the feat. Come run your best race this year at the Burns Park Run and race a hard mile in honor of Roger Bannister.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle--when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Roger Bannister

Run for the Schools! In 2010, we kicked off our effort to raise money for other schools - and we are doing it again 2012! Donate to a school PTO or the Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation using our School Donation Form.

K-8 runners from other schools are again invited to raise money for their own school PTO by running the Burns Park Run. For each kid on a PTO team, 100% of their net registration proceeds plus those of one running parent per kid will be donated to their school's PTO. This year, the signup is streamlined - eligible kids will see a signup during online registration. Let us know if you want your school on the list!

New Charity! Due to the tough economic times, many kids and their families face difficulties in funding healthy activities like those offered by the YMCA. For 2012, the Burns Park Run encourages registrants to donate to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

With Strong Kids funds, the YMCA is able to provide scholarships for childcare and afterschool programs, summer camps, youth aquatics/sports programs and Youth in Government. Donations also support our Ypsilanti afterschool sports programs, Chain of Plenty at the Delonis Center, and Youth Volunteer Corps.

Donate directly through their link above or during online registration!

In 2012, we expect to have an even better brunch with homemade goodies again, fruit from Stadium Market, Zingerman's bagels and Caribou Coffee. Plus complimentary massages from Arbor Wellness and Probility after the run!

Please Email us if you are interested in volunteering, sponsoring the Burns Park Run in the future - or if you have any other questions or suggestions for next year!

The Burns Park Run's social atmosphere is fun for runners and supporters alike.  Along with typical race fare, the post-race brunch includes fresh Zingerman's bagels with cream cheese, hot Caribou coffee, homemade muffins and other goodies.
