CREW DESCRIPTIONS

AWARDS

  • Finish line medals: Hand out cowbells to the 5K/10K finish line cheering area. Distribute finisher medals to registered Kindergarten through 8th grade finishers. Congratulate the masses! May not participate in 5K/10K if handing out finish line medals.

  • Fun run ribbons: Hand out finisher ribbons to registered 1/2 mile Fun Run finishers.  Provide lots of encouragement!

  • Podium medals: Assist celebrity guest, Ann Arbor Track Club president, Burns Park Elementary principal and emcee with handout of awards and medals.

BRUNCH

  • Bagel delivery: Pick up and deliver donated bagels on race morning.

  • Brunch prep: Slice and spread cream cheese on bagels. Cut bananas and other donated food items. May need to provide a bagel cutter or knife, cream cheese spreader and cutting board.

  • Brunch tables: Convert the registration tables into the post-race brunch. Set out and replenish prepped brunch items (as needed) for finishers. Breakdown area post-event.

  • Coffee delivery: Pick up and deliver donated coffee on race morning.

COURSE LAYOUT

  • Driver: MUST have access to a truck or large van. Pick up pre-ordered barricades and cones from the City of Ann Arbor on Friday prior to race. Along with 2 assistants, distribute barricades and cones to their designated areas on the race route (specific layout instructions provided) early on race day (between 6:30 and 7:30 am). Collect all barricades and cones post-race. Return all supplies to the City of Ann Arbor on Monday following race.

  • Assistant: Ride along with course layout driver to distribute barricades and cones prior to the race and to collect barricades and cones post-race.

 

COURSE SAFETY

  • Course marshal: Ensure runner safety on course by a) directing runners along the race route and b) assisting traffic crossing (as necessary). Bring along music and your best cheering voice to encourage the participants. Chair and coffee optional, but highly recommended!

  • Lead bikers: MUST be in fit physical shape and have their own bike. Guide the male and female 5K and 10K leaders, respectively, through the course for each race. Notify race director ‘all clear’ after last participant crosses finish.

  • May not participate in 5K/10K

 

MARKETING

  • Poster/postcard and yard sign distribution: Distribute race advertising materials, including posters, postcards and yard signs, in businesses throughout Ann Arbor.  A list of  businesses will be provided by the race directors.

  • Sponsorship steward: Under the direction of Burns Park Elementary fundraising committee leads, approach local businesses to sponsor the Burns Park Run.

 

PHOTOGRAPHER

  • MUST have digital camera(s) with lots of memory. Document events of the day, starting with volunteer race preparations on race morning through the final award medal.  Volunteer photographers agree to allow the Burns Park Run to use submitted images for the Burns Park Run event website and promotion. Photographers also agree to allow participants to freely copy and print images for their personal use. Photographers retain the copyright of their images.

 

REGISTRATION

  • Form runner: Continually deliver late registration forms from registration table to race management representatives.

  • Fun Run registration: Assist participants with registration for the 1/2 mile Fun Run, payment for entries, and additional shirt sales (while supplies last).

  • Late registration: Assist participants with registration for the 5K/10K, payment for race entries, and additional shirt sales (while supplies last). 

  • Packet pickup: Hand out race bibs and shirts (as applicable) to pre-registered participants.

 

WATER STATIONS

  • Finish area water tables: Prep and supply water and Gatorade at finish line area.

  • On-course water tables: Prep and supply water to runners. Keep debris clear from race route surface.

  • Setup/teardown station before/after event.

  • Water station supplies delivery: MUST have a van, SUV or truck to transport supplies. Transport (pre-race)/collect (post-race) on-course water table supplies from water station host sites.  Water station supplies are picked up from race directors the day before the race.

  • May not participate in 5K/10K (with exception of the water delivery crew)

 

BAKED GOODS DONATION (SIGNUP NOT REQUIRED)

The Burns Park Run prides itself on hosting one of the best neighborhood post-race brunches, with multitudes of donated muffins, cookies, and treats (home-baked or store-bought equally accepted). Bake/buy a few dozen to provide during the brunch! Drop off baked good donations at the Burns Park Warming Hut during packet pick-up on Saturday or on race morning.

 

CLEANUP (SIGNUP NOT REQUIRED)

Anyone willing to help breakdown the race start/finish area is thoroughly appreciated! Find an onsite volunteer or race director for a list of cleanup activities.
